Amazon Web Servicesのシステムアーキテクチャを少しばかり推察する

「Amazon Web Services関連の求人」のエントリでも紹介しましたが、Amazon Japanが技術者(エンジニア)に関する求人を募集しています。

その中の「データセンターテクニシャン」という職種の募集要項を眺めていると、当然ですが、どういった技術要素やスキルが求められているかが記載されており、Amazon Web Services(に限らないかもしれませんが)やAmazonのシステムアーキテクチャの一部を何となく推察することができます。

via. データセンターテクニシャン/ Data Center Technician

In the hiring of a Data Centre Technician, we are looking for an individual with experience across the following four core competencies:

データセンターテクニシャンとして、以下3つ(英文は4つになっているが、間違いかな？)の経験がある人材を探しているとのこと。
つまり、以下の要綱からAmazonのデータセンター内で稼動しているシステムのアーキテクチャを、完全にではありませんが、少し垣間見ることができます。

 Linux Administration:
 -    Boot Process
 -    GRUB/LILO
 -    File Systems
 -    Network device and protocol configuration
 -    Directory Structure
 -    Performance Management/Troubleshooting
 -    Base Operating System Install
 -    Scripting; Perl, Python, Bash
 -    TCP/IP Concepts

一般的なLinux OSの知識が一通りは必要そうですね。
ブートローダのところでLILOが含まれているのが気になるところ。GRUBでなくてLILOを採用するシーンが思い浮かばないですが、世界のAmazon様だけに、何か理由があるのか。それともレガシーなシステムが存在するのか。

あと、Amazon EC2の各サーバで動いているami-toolsを見ていると、Rubyで書かれていたはずですが、上記に入っていないということは、AMIの管理なんかは別のチームが担当なのですかね。

 Computer/Server Hardware:
 -    HP/Compaq Proliant Servers - possess or obtain within three months of hire, an APS certification on the Proliant products.
 -    Knowledge of the x86 platform & SAN architecture
 -    RAID
 -    SAN
 -    Fault Isolation
 -    x86
 -    SCSI

噂には聞いていましたが、IAサーバのハードウェアは「HP」なんですね。
「Proliant製品のAPS認定(HP製品を扱うための資格ですね)を持っているか、3ヶ月以内に取得すること」が条件。
あと、仮想化プラットフォームがXenなので、x86プラットフォームと、バックエンドはSANが使われている、と。

 Networking:
 -    Experience with Cisco's Cat & Native IOS
 -    Switch configuration & troubleshooting
 -    Copper cable termination.
 -    Understanding of fiber optic cabling.
 -    Experience with Cisco 6500, 3700 & 7600 Series equipment.

ネットワークまわりは「CISCO」と。この辺は順当。

Candidates need not be experts in all of the above, but the ideal candidate would have experience with at least two of the above & show the willingness & aptitude to learn what is required to become adequately skilled in the other competencies.

余談ですが、上記で挙げた事項全てのエキスパートである必要はないが、理想は少なくとも2つの経験を有していることだそうだ。(あとは意欲)
